Not Feeling Worthy

Do you ever get discouraged because you don't think you look like other Christian women around you?  Do you ever feel like the portrait of a  perfect wife and mother has the mythical perfect church lady in it?  Do you feel like if portraits were hung in church according to worth, you would be pinned up in the changing room for infants and you would be crying in the picture.

Do you ever throw yourself a big pity party and begin to doubt your place in life?

As someone always a little off of center, I can assure you, my mind has portrayed me as the women with a giant ? over her head many many times.  I have struggled with knowing what I am worth, to myself, the world around me ...  to God...

For you formed my inward parts;
14
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.[a]

Wonderful are your works;

    my soul knows it very well.
15
My frame was not hidden from you,
when I was being made in secret,
    intricately woven in the depths of the earth.
16
Your eyes saw my unformed substance;
in your book were written, every one of them,
    the days that were formed for me,
    when as yet there was none of them.
PS 139:13-16

I often need a pep talk.  Okay, let's be honest I have to often search out scripture to give myself a pep talk. The word is the only place you should go for pep talks.  If you are looking for answers that are based in truth and will stand through eternity...

Stop looking at everyone else's "Portraits" (chances are she's having a rough time too) and stop comparing yourself to perfection and start just being a servant, who will do anything for God.  He will use you and chances are, you will feel more encouragement than the aftermath of any pity party you could ever throw.

Good post, Jen. Anytime I feel like this, I tell myself it is a lie from satan because it is. Also, I love Ps. 139. When I'm facing a big decision or just feeling indecisive, I read this Psalm. It recenters my focus on God's plans for me.

I have the same thoughts.... and those days can be hard hard days!! I use scripture to pull me out.... and when that doesn't work I begin thanking HIM for who He is ... and worrying less about what I am not. I was reading over some of my previous posts and this one http://mercysavedme.blogspot.com/2012/04/content-blessings-in-disguise.html reminded me that these times are just blessings in disguise!
